Canteen of Cutlery for six people, by Cooper Ludlam , in the original fitted box. The pattern is the popular Dubarry Design, and is very stylish. All knives are marked “Cooper Ludlam” and all the other items are marked EPNS A1 Sheffield England. S stands for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver, a base metal alloy that is predominately nickel to give it a silver color, covered in a thin layer of silver that is applied by electrolysis, a technique pioneered by the great English maker, Elkington, in the 1840s. Items marked “EPNS” (or EP) started to appear in the late 1880s and early 1890s and were in common usage throughout the 20th century. Condition is excellent with no wear to the plate and no dings or dents. As these are vintage items there may be very slight scratches on the surface, but nothing major – these are shown in the photos. I have lots more silver plate and collectable items, please. I always pack carefully to make sure they arrive safely and quickly.
